Stereo Phono Pre-Amp
$5,700
The Specimen Stereo Phonograph Pre-Amp is a two stage audio pre-amplifier for use with magnetic phono cartridges. When used in conjunction with the Specimen Line Pre-Amp driving any of our power amps and horn speakers, the splendor of vinyl records may be enjoyed (as well as three other sound sources).
The inter-stage coupling between the two amplifier sections of the this preamp includes an RIAA equalization network, namely the RCA “New Orthophonic”
characteristic. A single 6SL7 octal preamp tube is used for each channel. The power supply is built on a separate chassis for hum rejection. It is twin choke-loaded for superior regulation and features a DC filament supply which can be switched between the stock rectified supply or battery power for absolutely pure DC on the filaments. The battery supply is a little cleaner and sparkly sounding, but lacks the warmth of the on-board supply. This comes in handy for slightly dull sounding or worn records.
The pre-amp and power supply are connected with a heavy-duty umbilical cord and mate together forming the same single footprint of our other stock models. This allows the products to nest nicely beside each other.
Color Finishes:
The amplifier frame is made using the same Baltic Birch plywood as our horn speakers and other stereo components and can be finished to match perfectly. Presently we offer the following color finishes:
– Natural
– Dark Walnut
– Dark Green
– Dark Red
– Dark Orange
– Piano White*
– Piano Black*
*Opaque finishes are an additional $300 (e.g., black, white, or other custom opaque color)
